Throughout the course, you will analyze leadership best practices and assessment strategies. For your course project, you will apply your analysis to improve the leadership of a selected project.
For this project, place yourself in the position of a leader of a project team that is about to begin work. You may use a project from your workplace or create your own scenario such as:
• Your team has been charged with an ERP implementation.
• You are the project leader for a labor union contract renewal.
• You are the campaign manager for a political candidate up for reelection.
• You are the team leader for the implementation of a standardized exam to hold teachers accountable in an elementary school system.
You will use your selected project or scenario to develop the following components.
Project Selection
For this component:
• Identify and describe the selected project or scenario.
• Identify and describe the project team members including:
o Position titles.
o Roles.
o A brief bio of each team member.
Identify stakeholders who have an interest in the success or failure of the project.
Develop a SMART—Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time Oriented—project timeline within the ten week course timeframe.
Identify and describe challenges you anticipate in leading the selected project or scenario.
Organizational Assessment
For this component:
Identify the aspects of leadership that are fundamental in achieving success for your selected project.
Describe how the identified leadership aspects differ from a management approach.
Identify a leadership assessment method appropriate for your organization.
Using the assessment method and fundamental leadership aspects identified, assess the current leadership capability within the organization for your project or scenario.
Leadership Assessment Metrics
For this component:
Examine assessment instruments available to determine leadership potential.
