The hospitality industry is currently one of the fasted growing sectors of the economy. The external business environment affects planning,organisation, directing and controlling all parts of the business.
Some questions require you to write about a major hotel group within the UK. (where marked)
With other questions, consider including lodgings, restaurants, travel and tourism, airlines, and the meeting and convention companies in cities, the seaside and the countryside where appropriate.
The assignment covers 3 major aspects:
1. The impact of socio-economic change on the development of commercial organisations in a business and services industry context
2. The effect of legal and political environments on business and service
3. The statutory requirements for establishing and developing a business
and services operation
Write a Report of not more than 5000 words addressing the following learning outcomes.
Task 1: discuss the structure and operation of the UK economy (size, features, philosophy, regulation, taxation, security, efficiency, direction)(AC1.1; M1)
Task 2: Analyse current government economic policy and its effect on business and services industries (focusing on a major UK hotel group ) (AC1.2; M2)
Task 3: Discuss income, wealth, employment and occupational distribution in relation to the provision of business and services operations (consider who are the users of the Hospitality Industry’s services and who are the providers; who are the patrons and who are the workers) (AC1.3; M3)
Task 4: Assess the demographic trends that influence the employment patterns in the hospitality industry.(AC1.4; M2)
Task 5: Analyse the social structures of people employed in a major UK hotel group.(AC1.5; D3)
Task 6: Discuss the structure, operations and influence of local government on a major UK hotel group. (AC2.1)
Task 7: Evaluate the role and influence of the EU, and its impact on business and services industries (AC2.2; D2)
Task 8: Assess the role of pressure groups and their political influence in relation to national and local issues in regards to hospitality industry (AC2.3)
Task 9: Analyse the legal framework within the UK, identifying the main differences between the English and Scottish systems (AC2.4)
Task 10: Evaluate the UK and EU legislative process as it affects a major UK hotel group’s business and services at both local and national level (AC2.5; D1)
Task 11: Assess the different types and characteristics of business that operate within the business and services with a focus on the hospitality sector. (AC3.1)
Task 12: Discuss the legal processes necessary for formation and dissolution of a registered company. (AC3.2)
Task 13: Analyse the structure and processes which determine the responsibilities and control within a registered company.(AC3.3)

Achievement of a pass grade

All work for assessment must be submitted with a Turnitin report on plagiarism. The maximum Turnitin score admissible is 15% (after deduction of 1% & 2% records).
Assignments with more than 15% score will automatically be referred for reworking and resubmission.
