Creating a “Culture of Safety”
A leadership-driven organizational “culture of safety” is comprised of, but not limited to, the following essential elements:
- Recognition that we “live in a high-risk environment” and that errors can happen to anyone at any time;
- A commitment to the fact that Patient Safety is everyone’s job – every minute, every day;
- A “Just Culture” of transparent and open reporting of errors and near misses; and
- Key leadership participation and support.
The “culture of safety” does not happen by accident!
